A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence: Lessons from My Father, Joseph Tushinsky

Every great journey starts with inspiration, and mine began with my father, Joseph Tushinsky—a true pioneer in the world of consumer electronics. Widely regarded as “The Father of Stereo,” my father’s vision and entrepreneurial spirit left an indelible mark on the industry and laid the foundation for my own path in business. Through his groundbreaking work introducing SONY to the United States, he didn’t just sell products; he revolutionized how people interacted with technology and entertainment.

But his contributions didn’t stop there. My father also owned several consumer electronics giants, including MARANTZ, a brand synonymous with premium audio equipment, and Pianocorder, an innovative player piano system that brought music into homes like never before. These ventures, along with his pivotal role in advancing stereo technology, exemplified his relentless pursuit of quality and his ability to identify and nurture groundbreaking ideas.

Growing up, I watched my father turn challenges into opportunities. He wasn’t just a businessman; he was a trailblazer who believed in the power of innovation to transform lives. His ability to foresee the potential of emerging markets and his unwavering dedication to excellence taught me invaluable lessons that continue to guide me today.

One of the most profound lessons I learned from him was the importance of creating something meaningful—products that do more than serve a function. They must connect with people, inspire them, and enrich their lives. His commitment to quality, authenticity, and innovation became the pillars of his success, and they’ve become mine as well.

When I founded 2XL Swagger Brands and created PinkKitty and EasyRhino, I drew directly from my father’s legacy. After all, the concept for these liqueurs originated from his Fruitka—a unique homemade spirit he shared with family, friends, and even SONY executives like Morita-san. It was more than just a drink; it was an experience that brought people together, sparking connection and joy. Inspired by that same ethos, I set out to create liqueurs that capture the passion and innovation my father embodied, but with a modern twist.

“My goal with PinkKitty and EasyRhino was to take what I learned from my father’s legacy of innovation and apply it to an entirely new industry—creating products that don’t just taste good but offer a truly transformative experience,” I’ve often said.

My father’s story reminds me that success isn’t about following trends but about shaping them. It’s about daring to be different and delivering something that resonates deeply with people. His legacy continues to inspire me as I work to build 2XL Swagger Brands into a company that redefines its industry, just as he did in his own time.

Joseph Tushinsky was a pioneer, a visionary, and most importantly, a man who believed in the power of ideas to change the world. Whether it was through SONY, MARANTZ, Pianocorder, his groundbreaking contributions to stereo technology, or his unforgettable Fruitka, he always pushed the boundaries of what was possible.

I only wish he were here to see me follow in his footsteps. I’m forever grateful for everything I’ve learned from him, and I strive every day to honor his incredible legacy. Love and miss you dad, thank you for being a great father and teacher!
